Working out in Kapolei - Part 2

Working out at Kapolei - Part 1

Special Saturday Class - Queen's Beach

On February 14th, there will be a special location class with the 2 other Stroller Strides locations (Honolulu and Kaneohe/Kailua) at Queen's Beach in Waikiki.

Remember, Saturdays are family day, so make sure to bring your families (husbands/significant others/older kids) for this special Valentine's Day Class, and bring something CHOCOLATE to share after class.  Yes, a chocolate potluck!  And, this has been endorsed by our trainers :)!!

The trainers from all 3 locations will be teaching that day, so it will be a great opportunity to learn new exercises, and meet lots of moms from all over the island.

Date: Saturday, February 14th
Time: 9:00am
Place: Queen's Beach, Waikiki (across from the zoo)

Don't forget to bring beach gear for after class!

Luna/Clif Bar Recall

For those of you that eat Luna and Clif bars, please see this important message regarding the voluntary recall of all their bars that contain peanuts/peanut butter.  The website will tell you which products are affected, as well as how to see if what you have is in the possible affected batch.

My friend actually received a message from Costco regarding the potential risk since they had recently purchased Clif bars from there, and when my husband attempted to purchase Clif bars at Walmart last week, it flagged the item and they were not allowed to sell them.  So, if you have any lurking in your pantries, check the date and THROW THEM OUT.  You can never be too careful.

Thanks Sarah for forwarding this information!

Mom Spotlight - "Eva"

Our next mom spotlight introduces us to Eva, who you may have seen at class lately taking photos of everyone sweating.

Eva writes:

"I guess since I am taking pictures of everyone and invading people's privacy, hahaha, I should let people know a little about me.

My name is Chi Fung, but almost everyone calls me Eva.  "Chi" means smart, and "Fung" means "unpredictable like the wind," so I guess I'm smart and unpredictable.  I got the name Eva from my uncle, after he noticed how everyone was butchering my Chinese name.  Eva means "doll-faced."

I was born in Hong Kong, but moved to Hawaii when I was 4 years old, and pretty much have lived here most of my life.  I graduated from the Universuty of Hawaii at Manoa with a B.Ed in Elementary Education, and taught 6th grade English at Kalakaua Middle School for 2 years.  I am currently on leave to take care of Logan.

My hobbies include eating (who doesn't?!), sleeping (whenever possible) and trying new things as much as possible.

Before I had Logan I helped coach my high school's wrestling and judo team.  I'm also nationally certified as a judo referee.  Back in the day, I was wrestling Eastern Division and OIA League champion and State Runner-up.  I also competed nationally in judo tournaments.  The last tournament I competed in was the Collegiate Judo National Tournament in Chicago, and placed 4th in my weight class.

I love Stroller Strides!  I first learned about SS on FitTV while I was pregnant, and was ecstatic when I found out there was a SS in Kapolei (courtesy of Logan's pediatrician's office).  I love how SS motivates all the moms to work out and children to get up and move.  I love how it brings everyone together by having fun activities like beach days, playgroups and ESPECIALLY Mom's Night Out.  With all this motivation, I know that I will be able to reach my fitness goals with the help of STROLLER STRIDES!

Disney and Anheuser Busch Deals

I love Disney.  Everything about it.  So, when I saw these special deals, I was very excited.  Disney rarely offers any kind of special deals, so these are really, well, special!

For you military families, both Disneyland/World and Anheuser Busch (aka Sea World) are offering special deals for military this year.

For Disney, there are special military rates available (Armed Forces Salute ticket).  FREE for service member, and BIG discounts for family and friends (up to 5 additional tickets per service member).  Go to mouse misers for more info.  Discounts are available for both Disneyland and Disney World.

ALSO, Disney is offering a free ticket on your birthday for everyone, not just military, so see their website for more details.  Go to home.disney.go/parks to register for your free ticket.

Anheuser Busch is continuing their Free Admission program for Active Duty Military and up to 3 dependents.  See their website for a list of locations.  My family and I have taken advantage of this deal at Sea World, San Diego, and really, what can be better than free!  To register for free admission, go to Hero Salute.

Happy travels!

Stroller Strides Sale and the Great Aloha Run!

No, not my run...

All joking aside, there is a big clearance on select Stroller Strides apparel.  Go to the Stroller Strides site, and let Sarah know what you would like to order by tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 7:30 pm.  She will be placing an order then.  Be as descriptive as possible in order to get the correct item.  Sarah pays the shipping, and there is no tax!  It's a great opportunity to stock up on SS gear that you see some of the trainers and other mommies wearing. You may want to think about purchasing the "Team Stroller Strides" shirt which is now on sale for the fabulous price of $16.99 and enter...

The Great Aloha Run on Monday, February 16th!  The race is 8.15 miles from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium.  You can enter with your kids in strollers (the cost is $5 for 5 and under).  All ages are welcome!  Please see their website for more information on how to enter and entry fees.

So, let's all pick up our Team shirts and enter together!  Go Stroller Strides Leeward Oahu!

$$ REWARDS $$

Stroller Strides is offering a great referal reward for the month of January. If you refer someone, you will receive a $30 gift card to Nordstrom when they purchase either a 10-block or regular membership. If you haven't visited the new Nordstrom in Ala Moana, it is GREAT! It's the largest store on the west coast of the U.S., and offers special departments that you will not see anywhere else in the country, like the gelato bar and the Deborah Lippman Nail Salon.

Also, the $50 sign-up fee is waived this month, so it is a perfect time for all of your friends who have been wanting to join to save some cash and get a great workout with us all in the mornings!

Happy referals (and shopping)!

Schedule Change

Not sure if you noticed (I didn't!), but there has been a time change for all of you that attend classes up at CORP (Waipio) on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Class is now beginning at 8:45am. See you all there!
