TumbleBus Update

TumbleBus has been at Tuesday class at CORP for the month of September and it has been a lot of fun for the toddlers to work out after mommy.

We are going to put TumbleBus on hold for the next few months and they will most likely resume classes in January on a monthly basis. Thank you to Michael and Mya for teaching awesome classes to the keiki. My kids have loved it! If you're looking for a unique birthday party idea, think TumbleBus! It will give the kids a healthy outlet for all that birthday sugar and it takes a minimum of planning for mom:=)

Hi, my name is Anja and in Feb 2009 we moved from Germany to Hawaii. My husband is in the US Army and I am originally from Germany. Before I became a stay-at-home mom, I specialized in building telecommunication networks on a world wide basis for one of the biggest telecommunication companies in the world.

My husband and I met in June of 2006 and from there we went on a fast track in the left lane of the Autobahn :o) We married in Nov 2006 and our "little monster," Charlotte Thalia, was born in June 2007. Two months ago we finally welcomed our son William Tiberius aka Ty into the world and now we are PAU :o) We are complete and happy.

Becoming a stay-at-home mom was very difficult in the first year... not only due to the fact that I went from working on a career, to staying home and taking care of a newborn but also because of being very isolated due to becoming a first time mom. When my daughter was a year old, I found the stroller aerobics in Kaiserslautern, Germany and even though Lotti did not want to stay in the stroller (still doesn't lol), I still attended and had a great time. It was the start of becoming very active and losing 50 pounds from the weight prior to being pregnant with my daughter.

Imagine... I had not really worked out since high school and that's a looooooonngggg time ago ha ha. Unfortunately during my pregnancy with Ty, I could not work out like I wanted to and ended up gaining it all back. I have 30 pounds to go until I am where I want to be and I know you ladies will help me achieve that :o). I am very excited that I found Stroller Strides Oahu and I can truly say I feel very welcomed and motivated to work out as much as my busy schedule permits. Mahalo for being such a great group! Keep pushing :o)

Every adult and child costs $6.50 (babies under 1 year old are free, pumpkin not included). Checks are due to any instructor at class by Friday, October 1, made out to Aloun Farms.

Beach Day This Thursday

On Thursday, September 23 we'll be meeting at White Plains for Beach Day. Click on the link for directions.

Please note that we've changed beaches! There were concerns about parking and high surf at Waimea, so we'll stick to the leeward side and White Plains Beach (where parking is rarely a problem).

I'll be there from 11 to 1 o'clock. Bring a packed lunch and be sure to RSVP so that we can coordinate a meeting spot.

RSVP here! If you don't have a Facebook account, simply email me.

Hi, my name is Heather and I'm a proud Mom to two very active boys, Christian (age 5) and Casey (age 3). I attend the classes at Schofield, CORP, and Kapolei sometimes just to change it up a bit! =) I've been stroller striding since Christian was about 9 mos. old and have been striding wherever we've moved ever since. ;)

We've been living in Hawaii (Mililani Tech Park area) for almost two months and absolutely love it!! I feel blessed to live in such a gorgeous location!! What brings us here is my amazing husband's 21 year Navy career (we're giving it another 3 years and then probably wrapping it up). It's been an incredible ride (we've lived in Naples, Italy, Pasadena, MD, San Antonio, TX and San Diego, CA). I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and would love to live there again, so we'll see...

BC (Before Children), I taught high school English for 8 years and loved it... loved warping the minds of our youth (j/k!) but now I'm lucky enough to take a break and enjoy my boys at these once in a lifetime ages!! Stroller Strides definitely helps keep a sound body and mind needed daily and I give a lot of credit to moms for hanging in there! ;) It's not easy!!

My fitness goals are to just tighten up, lose some pounds, and keep the spirits up throughout the process...and not over-obsess over it... Besides swimming, reading, and hanging with my boys, I enjoy anything educational and fun, learning new things, hanging with my family and friends anywhere, and kicking back with a sunset...

Looking forward to making some new friends here and getting out of the house for some fun MNOs!

Host Family Wanted!

From Sarah

Hello fellow Stroller Strides Moms,

Due to a new job and upcoming move to Colorado, we need to find a new host family for our exchange student from the Czech Republic. He's 17, loves guitar, beach volleyball, hiking, camping and scuba diving. He's courteous and easy going. He's scheduled to be here for only the first semester and therefore will be leaving January 1st. We will be able to continue hosting him through at least the 15th of October. I thought with so many of you enjoying the outdoors, sports and being overall nice sociable people you might like to host? If so and you'd like more information please check out the website or call Barbara Bancel, Co-ordinator with International Hospitality Center: 808-521-3554 and let her know you're interested in being a replacement host family for Sarah Pursell. Thank you for thinking about it:)

Hi everyone my name is Sheena! The Navy brought my Dad, Mom, Sister and me here in 1996. We lived in The Waterfront (Iroquois Point Military Housing at the time). Luckily my dad's job kept us here for 10+ years.

I met my husband Wes in 2004, we got married in August 2008 and had our first daughter Isabella Marie on April 2, 2010 -- a Good Friday baby:)

I first heard about Stroller Strides from my good friend Gwen. I was excited to hear that there was going to be one at the Waterfront, which is where I attend class every Tuesday and Thursday. I also try and attend at Kapolei some MWFs.

I love to go shopping and spend money I don't have! hahah... Although I'm not that great I love to take pictures and post them all over my house and drive my husband nuts... he tells me we have too many frames up. I love to run I just need to build myself back up and be able to run long distances again... Stroller Strides is helping me do that, I enjoy my Stroller Strides time and I look forward to meeting everyone and getting in shape and wearing all my "small" clothes hanging in my closet... heeeheee....

TumbleBus Tuesday

TumbleBus came to class this week for our inaugural tumbling lesson for the kids. It was an introductory kind of day so the kids got to do free play on the bus with Michael and Mia. Sara loved it! She's quite the monkey and she loved the rings (as you can see).

After getting to see the bus in action, I think it's best suited for the 2+ crowd who will be taught a formal lesson by Michael and Mia from this point forward. (The younger kids can get involved if they have mom on the bus with them during lessontime, though.)

I envision TumbleBus day as a peaceful time for us moms to chat in the shade outside the bus while the kids tumble away to their hearts content.

Each class costs $10 and it is on a drop-in basis. The kids each received a TumbleBus tee shirt after class and some fun stickers and hand stamps.

Lining up for sticker time!

Hi, my name is Amy. We first moved to the island in 2002 and left for Arizona shortly before our son, Declan, was born in 2008. My husband's work brought us back again this past March. Declan and I will be attending the meetings in Kapolei where we live.

My interests include reading, photography, TV, and movies. Once in a great while I like to sew a blanket or something. As you may have guessed by my list of sedentary, indoor interests, exercise has never been very appealing to me. As I get older though I realize that I must change my attitude about workouts or I'll have no hope of getting into those 'skinny' clothes I keep holding on to. Stroller Strides seems like a great way to achieve that while getting to know some new people. I am looking forward to making new friends while getting in shape for the first time in my life.

TumbleBus Next Tuesday!

Let's have the gym come to us! Beginning in September, TumbleBus will be rolling up to CORP on Tuesdays after class to provide gymnastics and tumbling fun for the kids. Participation is on a drop-in basis and each 30-minute class costs $10.

Children ages 2 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult for free play on the bus. Children over 24 months do not need a chaperone and they will be working with an instructor. The maximum number of children allowed on the bus is 15.

Sign up here if you are interested! Classes will begin on Tuesday, September 7 at 10:15 at CORP.

From TumbleBus's Web site:
TumbleBus is a “gym on wheels” filled with fun equipment bringing the best possible gymnastic fitness class to your child. Cheerfully decorated, the TumbleBus provides a unique and fun way for your child to receive the physical fitness that is so important to his/her development. Certified instructors “with a special heart toward children” make the experience memorable as well as educational. We want to build your child’s self-esteem and physical fitness.

Gems of the Day

If you know me, then you know that I like to move. And there are so many fun programs out here on the island for us and for our children!

Leah and Caleb recently started taking tae kwon do lessons at Fisher's CTA Blackbelt Academy. The studio is gorgeous and located just down the road from Costco in Kapolei. The kids love learning their kicks and punches and are even acquiring some martial-arts inspired discipline. Love it! If you're interested in the Tiny Tigers program (ages 4-7), let me also add that it gives you just enough time to drop off the kids and pop over to Starbucks for a nice afternoon treat:=)

I've been a long-time student of Coach Jumawan with Pearlside Boxing and his program at Kapolei has just launched Keiki Boxing classes. Oh, if I didn't have to cook dinner and do the laundry! I'd have the kids in boxing too. Classes are held at 2, 3 or 4 o'clock on Tuesday or Thursdays and are geared to children ages 4 to 7.

Both programs also offer adult classes in the evenings (if you aren't too wiped out from Stroller Strides, or are looking to get hubby active too!).
