Member Monday II

Hi, my name is Ellen and I attend Stroller Strides at Schofield.

I'm struggling to get back into shape after my Katie Rose was born. She's 7 months old now. I also have a 9 1/2 year old daughter Sierra.

Sierra only knows Hawaii since we've been here since she was about 3 1/2. She has attended Wheeler and now Hale Kula Elementary school. She's in the gifted-talented program and Tae Kwan Do.

I'm a SAHM and finishing the last classes of my BA in Psychology at Chaminade University of Honolulu. I'm hoping to jump right into my masters program (Education, Counseling or Education) wherever we are stationed next. We are expecting to PCS in July.

I've learned that the field of counseling often brings an emotional burden with it so I am hoping to turn running into a hobby. One step at a time I tell myself. I'm finding Stroller Strides quite a challenge. I've been impressed by the friendly participants and the encouragement given by the instructors.

My name is Erin and I have a daughter, Elle, who is 2 and 1/2 and am pregnant with our second due in September.

We have lived on Oahu for close to four years now and absolutely love it here. We live in Ewa Beach in Montecito/Tuscany.

I attend the Waterfront classes but am hoping to pick up Saturdays at CORP too.

I have always played sports and love to be outside. I played soccer and ran XC in high school and track in college. I taught middle school for four years and coached girl's volleyball, soccer and basketball and boy's baseball.

April MNO

Electric Go Kart racing was made for a large group!

Come race your friends at the new Podium Raceway in Kapolei (Barber's Point area).

Monday, April 11
6 to 9 PM

The facility is brand new and sparkling, and we can bring in on our own refreshments for a potluck dinner while we race. I'll provide a bunch of Costco pizzas.

I've never driven a Go Kart before but it looked pretty fun when I checked out the facility. It costs $25 for one race, $45 for 3 races if you buy a $6 yearly membership. You'll have a better race experience when you go as a group, and you can decide once you get there how many races you'd like to do. Each race lasts about 7 minutes with about 6-8 people in each heat.

Facility rules prohibit pregnant moms from driving and racers need to wear closed-toed shoes. There's no fee to enter the building so you can also come to just watch the races, play on the arcade games, etc.

I hope you'll join us! RSVP via Evite or let me know by email if you plan on being there so I have enough pizza.

Ford Island 10K

The Ford Island Bridge Run 10K is on Saturday, April 2.

This is a great run near Pearl Harbor with a fantastic (ok, grueling) hill at the end. I love it.

Regular registration is over but you can still register till April 1 for $30.

Hi, my name is Mara and I split my Stroller Strides time between CORP and Kailua.

I have an almost 9 month old son named Deene who is the fattest preemie you've ever seen. He is such a good baby and he makes me smile every day.

My husband and I are originally from Northeast Ohio, about an hour south of Cleveland. We grew up ten minutes down the road from each other, but didn't meet until he was home on transfer leave from the Navy.

He has been in Hawaii since December of 2005 and I moved out here in September of 2007. Our three year wedding anniversary is at the end of the month.

Aside from playing softball growing up, I've never been big on exercise. I've always had the desire to work out and live a healthier lifestyle, but I didn't think I could do it.

I'm so glad that I found Stroller Strides. I went to my first class in mid-January and wanted to quit (a few times!) before it was over. I'm so glad that I stuck it out and that I went back the next day.

I never thought I would come to a place in my life where I would enjoy and look forward to working out! I did the Swamp Romp last month and I still can't believe that I finished. I have also lost almost fifteen pounds. I know that neither of these things would have happened if it weren't for Stroller Strides! I'm definitely hooked! =)

Body Back has arrived at Leeward!

Body Back is a results-based, high intensity program. For 8 weeks, you will be pushed to go beyond your limits, to increase your speed and strength, and to achieve your ideal body composition. Body Back is about providing support, knowledge, and motivation so that YES, you can get your Body Back!

Program participants will have their progress charted with body fat analysis, and Before and After fitness assessments and measurements. Participants will also receive nutritional counseling and set concrete goals for the 8-week period. More than anything, Body Back is about achieving results.

Body Back is perfect for former Stroller Strides moms whose children are too big for the stroller and who miss the camaraderie of working out as a group. You can also be a current Stroller Strides member who just wants to mix it up! BB is a fantastic addition to your weekday workouts, especially if you were someone who enjoyed the focus that the Get Fit Challenge provided.

The first Body Back session begins on April 16 and runs through June 4. Class will be held on Saturday mornings at Central Oahu Regional Park.

There will be a free preview class on April 9. Come see what Body Back is all about! You can sign up here.

Class is limited to 10 participants, allowing me to design class around each woman's goals. We will use equipment such as free weights, Swiss balls, the kettlebell, TRX, medicine balls, and jump ropes.

And while we love kids at Stroller Strides, Body Back is a moms-only class. This is YOUR hour!

For more information about pricing and to sign up, click here. Receive half-off your Stroller Strides membership if you refer a friend outside of SS to Body Back.

Whether you had a baby two or twenty years ago, Body Back is for you!

Hey! My name is Sara, and I'm going on my second month in Stroller Strides, at the Ocean Pointe location!

I have a crazy 2 1/2 year old, named Dmitri - and we've been in Hawaii {Ewa Beach} for 2 years now.

My husband Daniel is in the Army, and we moved here from Utah - though I grew up in Northern California.

My goal is to finally {after 2 1/2 years...}, fit back into my pre-prego clothes! I also want to tone up - and one day, hope to call myself a runner!

Some things I like to do: I LOVE anything craft related; quilting, crocheting, etc. I also love to bake, and collect vintage Pyrex :} I love photography and being outside, and also enjoy snorkeling.

I already feel the positive results of being in Stroller Strides, and look forward to finally achieving my goals! :)

Tsunami Alert

There is a strong possibility that class may be canceled on Friday morning if the tsunami hits Hawaii. I will send out an email by 7:30 on Friday morning letting everyone know about the status of class.

If you do NOT hear from me, assume that class is canceled. It's possible that the power will have gone out from the tsunami and that I won't be able to use email or have a working phone.

Stay safe everyone!

Introducing Hayden Flynn

Hayden Flynn was born on February 21st at 12:41pm weighing 8lb 9 oz and 21 inches long.

Since big sister Saskia was born via c-section in 2007 we were attempting a natural delivery second time around and are happy to report a successful VBAC delivery with no pain medication.

I really think that remaining fit throughout my pregnancy helped me through a pretty intense labor and delivery.

I am extremely thankful for all the squats and lunges we do. My quads were sore for a week afterwards.

I can't wait to get back to class and am also looking forward to teaching again. I plan to spend the rest of my maternity leave working out new exercises and routines to keep the SS mommies on their toes!

Get Fit Challenge Results

Did you know we had another Get Fit Challenge going on?

Jill launched a GFC in Ocean Pointe in January after we had so much fun last year with the franchise-wide GFC. The Ocean Pointe members have been working hard since January and Monday was their final GFC class, complete with measurements and the fitness assessments.

Everyone who finished the OP GFC lost inches and got stronger. It was fun to see some of these women triple or even quadruple the number of push-ups they can complete in a minute, or shave one minute off the step-up time.

The Top 3
From left to right:
Tasha, 3rd place; Gia, 1st place; Karin, 2nd place

Congratulations to everyone on their accomplishment. I think Jill would agree that it has been great to see such dedication to class and eating well at home. Fit Moms Rock!

GFC Finishers
Karin, Kim, Jessica, Tasha, Gia, Nadia, Eve, and Jill

Hey, my name is Carla. I have one son named Landon who is 18 months old, and he is the love of my life.

The class I attend is in Kapolei, but I live in Honolulu next to Pearl Harbor.

I was born here in Honolulu, but only stayed a year since my father was in the Army.

What brought me back to Hawaii is my husband, because he is in the Navy. We arrived in late October, and I love being here!

This summer I plan to go back to college to finish my bachelor's degree in Photography. Art and music have been two of the most important things in my life. I am a very friendly, drama-free person, so if you ever want to hang out, you can come to garage on the weekend so we can party it up!

I've never been physically active before I started coming to Stroller Strides. My goal is to get back to my pre-baby body so I can look and feel awesome again. I had a c-section, so losing weight has been a huge struggle for me, especially when I had no one around to motivate me to workout on a regular basis. I know that going to class will definitely help me with my goal, because I can feel it every time I leave!

Boxing MNO

Back row, left to right: Stacey, Melanie, Amber, Jenna, Margene, Joni
Front row, left to right: Alexa, Stephanie, Tarah

Stroller Strides moms like to box! We went to Pearlside Boxing for our second MNO and it was a blast as always.

Everyone loved to punch the bag, the mitts, and even each other (not as scary as it sounds). You've never heard a gym get as loud as when we started to "hot dog" on the bags! I'm pretty sure it's because we have Jenna there, though:=)

Highlights: Seeing Stephanie slide right off the Swiss ball with every push-up. It's hard to grip when you get sweaty! Watching Amber gamely do step-ups and modified box jumps -- hard to do while pregnant! And hearing everyone whoop, cheer, and overall encourage each other to punch the bag just that much harder for just a little bit longer.

We'll be going again in a few months. If you haven't joined us yet, I really encourage you to try it when we do!

Swamp Romp!

BEFORE
left to right: Margene, Tarah, Stephanie, Mendi, Stacey, Joni

There is no race as fun as the Swamp Romp! The preparation it requires is crazy: pulling together a team of six (no more, no less), duct tape/baby wipes/garbage bags, a team theme and costumes, and the early morning drive out to Kaneohe. All to run 5 miles in the mud, which is amazingly fun and inexplicably exhilarating!

AFTER

Lots of Stroller Striders were at Saturday's race. Catherine and Liz from Schofield ran with their husbands; I saw Susan (SCH) and Jazzareen (former Strider) there as well. Then we had Ashley, Mara, Kim, and Andrea who ran along with two of their hubbies. The Windward side fielded 2 SS teams. And finally, we had the "official" Leeward team, the Tutti Fruity Cuties! "Cuties" were Tarah, Stacey, Margene, Mendi, Stephanie, and Joni.

Get ready for 2012!
