My name is Karin. I have a 9 month old son, Kameron, and we attend class at OP.

We came to HI about 18 months ago with my husband's job (the Army) and lived in Kaneohe until we recently moved to Ewa.

I was an elementary teacher for 3 years and worked as an EA on the island for a year, but stopped working after my baby was born. Now I just hang out at home.

I love playing soccer (but haven't in a while) and have a lot of TV shows that I'm addicted to. I mess around with photography, enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, have 2 dogs, and I'm a grad student at UH (and looking forward to getting my master's in educational administration next year).

Before pregnancy, I was really happy with my health, weight, and activity level, but it's been very hard for me to get back into an exercise routine again. My goal is to become healthier, stronger, and build back some of my running endurance. So far, Stroller Strides has been just what I've been looking for! I already feel like I'm making progress and am looking forward to more great workouts :)

Aloha Beth

Tarah and Anastasia, Beth, Kara & Kyle, Joni, Amy

Beth has been our longstanding Playgroup Captain at Kapolei and as tends to happen on this island, she is moving back to the mainland.

Beth made so many of our combined Playgroups happen (Easter, Halloween, Anniversary Party) and I am so thankful for all the work she was willing to put into these events. Beth rocks and I am going to miss her so much!

Beth was one of the first members who joined with me as the new owner. Kara was a young baby and we were all amazed how Beth would run with this chunk of baby in the front pack. Kara is a walking, talking toddler now and Kyle has graduated from SS to preschool on most class days. How time does fly.

Good luck in California, Flowers family!

Debbie and Maria are officially on the schedule as our newest instructors too!

We have a combined class at Kapolei on Valentine's Day. It will be taught by Joni, Jill, Rosy and Stephanie and it will be followed by a Valentine's Day party.

My Name is Melissa. I have 3 kids, Serena who is 10 going on 15, Adam who is 8 and totally adorable, and Ava who is 6 months and full of smiles.

My husband got stationed at Kunia in 2009. Other than there are no such things as road trips and family being so far away, I am totally loving it here.

I live and attend Stroller Strides on Schofield Barracks. I have been to Stroller Strides twice and each time it has kicked my butt, but it felt so good after.

In my free time I like to play World of Warcraft with my husband and scrapbook. I am trying hard to lose this baby weight. They say the 3rd one is the hardest but I am determined to get into my pre-baby pants again! I'd really like to be able to keep up with my very energetic kids, I don't want to be that mom who is tired after 10 minutes of playing with their kids.

I think Stroller Strides will be a good way for me to get out of the house and meet other moms and get fit all at the same time. It's nice having grown up time:-)

Meet our Newest Instructors!

We have two new instructors in town! Debbie and Maria will be primarily teaching at Schofield and jumping right in with Stephanie's move and Michaela's maternity leave. We're very lucky to have this much experience and dedication to health and fitness joining the instructor team!

Hi! My name is Debbie and I have the privilege of being Mom to my two loving, energetic, fun, and silly children, James (4) and Emma (2).

I married my college best friend, Joe, who is a Submarine Naval Officer. Thanks to physics (I needed a tutor) and running (he needed a training partner for OCS) our relationship bloomed into more than friends and we will be celebrating our ninth anniversary this summer.

I joined Stroller Strides because I love working out but I hated the idea of leaving James and Emma in the gym nursery. One day while running at CORP I saw a group of Stroller Stride moms finishing up at the playground. I had never seen so many moms working out together before and it intrigued me. So I attempted to swallow my “shy side” and jogged up to Heather who happily told me all about SS. She was so sweet and inviting I went home and emailed my husband (who was out to sea on a submarine) all about it. A month later I joined the group and I can’t imagine not being apart of it.

My favorite things about being a part of Stroller Strides are being in the best shape since college, meeting an amazing group of moms, surrounding my children with great friends and introducing them to a healthy lifestyle. I love that my children can be heard saying, “come on power walk Dada” or “lets do lunges.”

Before becoming a mom and wife I was a Division I Cross Country runner and team captain for the University of Hawaii @ Manoa. I coached boys' High School Track and Field long distance and completed the Honolulu Marathon as well as dozens of other road races. I earned my Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology and worked for the Hawaii Department of Education until I had James.

I look forward to working out with you! Aloha!

My name is Maria and I am a proud Army wife to my husband, Adam, and mom to our son Emanuel (21 months). We have been married almost three years and so far the Army has stationed us at Fort Bragg, NC, Fort Lee, VA and now Schofield Barracks, HI.

Adam was set to deploy shortly after we moved here in 2008, so I returned to North Carolina to work and give birth to our son. Emanuel and I returned to the island in October of 2009 as Adam came home from Afghanistan. We have lived on the North Shore, Ewa Beach and now have finally settled on post at Schofield Barracks.

I have a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science from East Carolina University, a personal trainer certification through AFFA and I am an RN. I have worked in the allied health field since 2002 as a group fitness instructor, exercise physiologist, personal trainer and nurse. I have worked with a diverse group of populations ranging from young adult to senior citizens. My passion is working with cardiac rehabilitation clients. It enables me to use the knowledge and experience I have gained in both fields to help patients recovering from cardiac events.

After moving to the island, I found it difficult to maintain a consistent workout routine. I no longer had the support from family and friends that I received while home and it wasn’t long before I had put on 15 pounds of post baby weight. I saw the ad for Stroller Strides online and decided to give it a try. After one class with Kim, I knew that SS class was where I needed to be for weight loss, motivation and friendship. Nine months later, I have completed four road races, one trail run and have lost 20 pounds! Before starting Stroller Strides, I could barely run a mile. Now, my goal is to complete a marathon before leaving Hawaii.

A favorite quotation of mine is ‘those who do not have time for exercise, will sooner or later find time for illness.’ There is never enough time in the day. As mothers, we put everyone else’s needs before our own. Stroller Strides enables us to take time out everyday just for us. We are also able to show our little ones the importance of incorporating physical activity as part of a daily routine and healthy lifestyle. I am excited to become an instructor and look forward to meeting new moms as well as working with some of the awesome women I have met so far. See you in class!

Note the dates on each photo.

Pedicure Spa Night

I Want YOU... to tell a friend about Stroller Strides!

We're so much more than just an exercise class. I remember when I joined as a new arrival to Oahu with no friends. After that first class, I thought with relief, "So THIS is where all the moms are!"

I love that Stroller Strides is a community for moms and for our children. We're about health, friendship, and play.

Our Marketing captain, Jenna, and I were just talking today about how Stroller Strides is a lot more than "just" a business. When I think about myself as a new mom, trying to make friends and navigate the realities of motherhood, how I would have loved a Stroller Strides in my neighborhood!

So in the spirit of building our community and having fun while doing it, all new members in January (along with the person who referred them), will be invited to a pedicure spa night, compliments of Stroller Strides.

Date and time will be announced in February. I hope to see you there!

Swamp Romp Details

A team from last year's Swamp Romp.

The Swamp Romp is a 5-mile race like no other! You WILL get muddy. Your shoes will come off if you don't duct tape them tight enough to your pants. And you will be exhilarated from a challenge that is both aerobic (all that running) and strength. It takes a lot of work to pull your legs out of the mud on each step.

Saturday, February 26
Marine Corp Base Hawaii
(Kaneohe)
7 AM

To participate, you need to enter as a team of 6. Once you sign up, you are committed, or else the rest of your team can no longer participate. The cost per team is $135 or $22.50 each.

Since we need to enter as teams of 6, numbers are important. We currently have 5 people signed up. Number 7 will not be able to do the race unless we have enough women for two teams.

Since this is an intense race, I don't recommend that anyone who is expecting or who has had a baby in the past 3 months (at least!) participate.

You can see pictures from last year's race here.

And you can sign up here!

Hi, my name is Ashley and my daughter is Harley, age 20 months. My primary location is Schofield since we live at Rocky Point, North Shore, Haleiwa.

We are stationed here in Hawaii since my husband is a rescue swimmer in the Coast Guard. He's stationed at Airstation Barbers Point. We've been here for 3.5 years and will be here for another 1.5

I LOVE spending time with my family no matter what we are doing as long as it's together. I also love to shop, read, and LOVE LOVE LOVE a great cup of coffee!!

I've always had a love/hate relationship with exercise but when I got introduced to a bunch of the women from Stroller Strides by Stephanie I was so encouraged and excited to join the group. Stephanie was a walking billboard for how the program works so wonderfully not just for physical fitness but for your whole being. My goal is to finally be comfortable with myself again after baby. Tone, Tone, Tone and if weight and inches go along with it FANTASTIC!!
