Hi, my name is Sheryl. I'm a very blessed mommy to Kara (3 years old) and Noah (10 months). I attend Stroller Strides at Kapolei even though I live in Ocean Pointe because we are slow moving in the morning!

My husband Sean is in the Army, but he's in the National Guard full-time, which means that we enjoy a lot of the great perks that the military has to offer without having to PCS every few years... not that I'd mind moving too much. I feel so fortunate to have been born and raised here, but I'd love to live somewhere else for a bit, just to experience new things.

I used to play volleyball and basketball in high school, and kept pretty active in college with intramural sports. I really got into weight training a few months before I got married. I loved how how strong I felt.

Shortly after our wedding, my husband went on his first of two deployments, and it was a pretty stressful time for us. I stopped going to the gym and didn't eat as well as I should have. I turned into such a couch potato. When my husband returned, I was determined to get back into shape and I started running again... and a month later I found myself pregnant with Kara.

I gained more weight than I should have, but I lost most of it a few months after Kara was born. When I found out I was pregnant again in 2009, I was determined to be a fit mama and exercise throughout my pregnancy, but was sidelined with a few complications. I ended up gaining about the same amount of weight, but I was so much bigger this time around (apparently I was carrying a big baby--Noah was born at 37 weeks, weighing in at 8 lbs, 7 oz!).

After Noah was born, I told myself that I'd hit the gym hard after the kids went to bed at night, but Noah is my sleep challenged baby, and I just never felt comfortable about leaving him to work out.

I decided to join Stroller Strides because I needed to be able to work out with my baby during the day (since the night workouts were just never going to happen). I love it! I suck at running, and it's so great that Stroller Strides has something for everyone. I've noticed a huge difference in my energy level and the way my clothes fit, and it definitely motivates me to keep working toward meeting my fitness goals.

Easter Class & Egg Hunt

Stroller Strides took over Central Oahu Regional Park this morning! Thanks to all the moms and dads who came to work out and compete for the Grand Prize ... the much-coveted Aloha Salads Gift Card!

(Runners-up all received a canister of Plum Organics Super Puffs. Yum!)

We had eight teams of 4 circuiting through the park to collect tickets at each station. Mom's job was to move through the stations as quickly as possible in 30 minutes.

The fun began with Stephanie (30 push-ups/dips), then on to Michaela (walking lunges), Alexa (20 rows/presses), Maria (100 step-ups), and ended with Kim (three hill sprints).

The fastest moms were able to make it through the circuit twice. It was a hot day at CORP and I could see that the stations took most of the juice out of everyone!

Our winning team had 5 members (8 teams of 4 is 32 people, but we ended up with 33 participants), so Team 8 had 1/5 of their tickets "canceled." They still won, however, so congratulations to Liz W., Liz O., Trish, Summer, and Melanie. They all won a $10 gift card to Aloha Salads.

On to the egg hunt! A huge thank-you to our Playgroup Captains Gia and Lindsey for stuffing eggs and helping to hide them with all the instructors. It was a fantastically successful egg hunt -- tons of eggs for all the kids to find!

I'll share if you want me to?

Check out all my loot!

Thank you to everyone who came today! I love combined classes and getting to see all the locations together as one. Even though you probably don't know everyone in SS like I do, I hope it helps everyone see how many other moms are out there in this area, engrossed in the "mommyhood" and loving fitness too!

Hello!! I am Ashley and I attend class at CORP and Kailua! I plan on trying some of the other classes soon too :).

I have a son named Brayden who just turned 1 (eek) at the end of March!

He is definitely a ladies man and will kill you with his eyelashes so watch out!

My husband is Navy stationed up at the NCTAMS, but we live in Honolulu.

We PCSed here from Oak Harbor, WA and have been here for a whole 8 months!! We are loving it so far and have been so blessed to meet some truly amazing people!

I have never been into exercise...EVER!! I hated gym in school and have maybe tried to work out a couple of times but have never set foot in a gym!

I gained 50lbs during my pregnancy and a year later I am still struggling to get off that last 15lbs. Stroller Strides has been a huge help and in my first month I lost five pounds!!! All of the moms have been a huge inspiration and are very supportive! Every day is still a challenge...with some days harder than others...but I am so happy to have found this little family out here in "paradise''.

Easter Class and Party in 1 Week!

Spring, bunnies, and Easter Eggs are just around the corner!

We'll have a combined class to celebrate Easter, followed by a giant Easter Egg hunt!

Wednesday, April 20
Central Oahu Regional Park
8:45–10 AM (class)
10–11 AM (party)

For class, you will be randomly grouped into teams of 4. You will move through the park earning tickets at each instructor station. (For example, to earn your ticket at my station, complete 10 push-ups, 20 squats, and 10 dips.) Your goal is to move quickly from station to station and earn tickets for your team.

Every mom will work at her own pace through the park. Once we regroup, every team will count their combined tickets for a chance to win the grand prize—gift cards to Aloha Salads!

Every station will be different and we'll be sure to have some Easter fun while you're working out. Bunny hops may be on the agenda♥

My name is Melanie and I am mommy to Xavier, 3 years old, and Miarie (Mia) who is 6 months old. I was born and raised in Hawaii but moved away to Las Vegas in 2000 to attend UNLV where I obtained a degree in Finance. I met my husband there and in 2007, at 8 months pregnant, the Army relocated us back to the islands. We just recently bought a home in Kamakana at Hoakalei near Ocean Point in Ewa Beach but class time there is just too early for us so we attend CORP and Kapolei on Wednesdays.

I was never athletic growing up so in high school I started working out. Do you remember buns of steel (hahaha)? I did it all. Exercise has been a passion since then. Over the years I became interested in women's body building and would like to one day enter a competition. I tend to focus on low-repetition, heavy weight exercises in the gym and so it is actually very challenging for me to do lower weight, higher repetitions/longer duration holds in Joni's awesome Wednesday class.

I used to be an AVID Stroller Strides mommy with Xavier around 2007-2008ish and I loved how SS pushed me beyond my comfort level (and still does). I gained 50 pounds (yikes!) with my first pregnancy and could not believe I gained that much weight and I was determined to take it off. Going to the gym alone wasn't working so when I joined Stroller Strides at that time I actually shed off all the weight and then some.

Being pregnant for the second time I continued to work out at the YMCA and tried to keep my weight gain to a minimal. But lo and behold I again gained 50 pounds. I am so glad I rejoined Stroller Strides. In just a few weeks, I already feel my body transitioning and my energy level increasing I have never done so much SQUATS in my life as I have done in these past few weeks...I can't believe I can still walk:) Everyone has been so motivating and I appreciate that cheering on one another is encouraged so much. I hope to one day keep up with everyone, lol.

MNO this Monday!

Electric Go Kart racing was made for a large group!

Come race your friends at the new Podium Raceway in Kapolei (Barber's Point area).

Monday, April 11
6 to 9 PM

The facility is brand new and sparkling, and we can bring in on our own refreshments for a potluck dinner while we race. I'll provide a bunch of Costco pizzas.

I've never driven a Go Kart before but it looked pretty fun when I checked out the facility. It costs $25 for one race, $45 for 3 races if you buy a $6 yearly membership. You'll have a better race experience when you go as a group, and you can decide once you get there how many races you'd like to do. Each race lasts about 7 minutes with about 6-8 people in each heat.

Facility rules prohibit pregnant moms from driving and racers need to wear closed-toed shoes. There's no fee to enter the building so you can also come to just watch the races, play on the arcade games, etc.

I hope you'll join us! RSVP via Evite or let me know by email if you plan on being there so I have enough pizza.

Welcome to our Newest Instructor!

My name is Kim and I'm very thankful for the wonderful opportunity I have to be able to stay at home with my three-year-old daughter, Chloe. I met my husband, Pat, while we were both working on our undergraduate degrees at the University of New Hampshire. I became a nurse, most recently working in a mother baby unit in Kansas while Pat completed medical school there. He is now in the general surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center.

I heard about Stroller Strides from a friend in Kansas just before we moved, who had found a coupon for a free week of classes. I checked it out and sure enough there was a class held in the neighborhood we were moving into (Ocean Pointe).

I didn't plan on signing up, figuring it was just moms walking around the neighborhood chit-chatting, but went to a class to check it out. I quickly found that my presumption couldn't have been more wrong, finding myself sore from the intense workouts but loving it! After the first class I knew I would join and I've been so happy with that decision ever since. I've met and become friends with so many great moms and I have Stroller Strides to thank for that.

In high school I was a sprinter in track and developed a love for fitness and nutrition. Since then I've continued to love running. Now I enjoy running and the full-body workout Stroller Strides gives you. I enjoy shorter distances and like running in 5 and 10K races. Hawaii is a wonderful place to get fit and stay fit, you always have wonderful weather and beautiful sites to see!

I'm a bit on the shy side but I am so excited about the great chance I've been given to instruct for Stroller Strides and I look forward to assisting everyone with their fitness goals.

Hi, my name is Emily and I am a Navy wife with two little girls ages 4 and 1 1/2.

This is my second time out in Hawaii. I attended Hawaii Pacific University and graduated with a B.A. in English.

While I was in school I met my husband. We were married in Pittsburgh PA (where I am from). We had our oldest daughter on Oahu and then moved to Washington state for two and a half years and now we're back.

I love reading, finding new places to go on walks/explore on the island, and taking pictures of my girls and the pretty sites.

As far as working out goes, currently I classify myself as a thin but out of shape person and I am working to change that.

I was very active in high school. I played field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. I was set to play field hockey and lacrosse in college but a few concussions, specifically the one that benched me for the last month of my senior season of lacrosse, scared me out of playing, so I transferred to HPU and the rest is history.

I primarily attend the CORP location and I'm really enjoying Stroller Strides!

I'm James and I now have four in the family including myself, Desiree (wife), Dezmond/11.5 months (son), and Griffin/7 days (daughter).

The military brought us to Hawaii and we have been here two years and trying to stay a little longer.

I attend the classes at Schofield on Mon, Wed and Fri. I enjoy all things water and getting out and seeing stuff. Haven't been able to do much lately but once the new one is older I'll be out and about again.

Congrats on the new baby, James! I hear you won't be taking the typical 6-week break from class though:=) Looking forward to having Griffin join you and Dezmond at SS soon!

Ford Island 10K

Past and present Stroller Striders! From left to right: Susan, Liz, Catherine, Teresa, Maria, and Bobbie.

Congratulations to everyone who ran in the Ford Island 10K yesterday! Most of these ladies are gearing up for the Wahine half-marathon on April 17... get ready! From what I heard of times, they are more than ready to rock the half.

Kim from Ocean Pointe also ran with her stroller. Anyone else? Tarah, Margene? I'm so mad I missed the race this year but I will be there next year!
