Session 2!

The inaugural session of Body Back wraps up in a little over a week. What a trip it's been! Thank you to all the Body Backsters who made waking up for our 6:30 AM class totally worth it.

Since the first session sold out, Body Back will now be offered on Tuesday nights as well. Both classes are held at Central Oahu Regional Park.

Participants have the option of attending Saturday-only, Tuesday-only, or both Saturday and Tuesday. Receive a 25 percent discount if you sign up for both classes.
_________________________________________________________________

1 class/week, $149 (SS), $169 (non-SS)
2 classes/week, $259 (SS), $299 (non-SS)
_________________________________________________________________

The next session begins June 21, with a free preview class on June 18 to demonstrate the three Body Back class formats (Rounds, Traveling, and Circuits). Session runs June 21 through August 20.

Body Back is a results-based, high intensity program. For 8 weeks, you will be pushed to go beyond your limits, to increase your speed and strength, and to work towards your ideal body composition. Body Back is about providing support, knowledge, and motivation so that YES, you can get your Body Back!

Program participants will have their progress charted with body fat analysis, and Before and After fitness assessments and measurements. Participants will also receive nutritional counseling and set concrete goals for the 8-week period. More than anything, Body Back is about achieving results.

Body Back is perfect for former Stroller Strides moms whose children are too big for the stroller and who miss the camaraderie of working out as a group. You can also be a current Stroller Strides member who just wants to mix it up! BB is a fantastic addition to your weekday workouts.

Class is limited to 10 participants, allowing me to design class around each woman's goals. We will use equipment such as free weights, Swiss balls, the kettlebell, TRX, medicine balls, and jump ropes.

And while we love kids at Stroller Strides, Body Back is a moms-only class. This is YOUR hour!

Spots are limited and sold out last session. Sign up here for the free preview class on June 18 and to reserve a spot today.

My name is Milena, I live in Ocean Pointe and I am loving Stroller Strides.

I joined it because I needed help to lose the last pounds of my 4th pregnancy and I am really happy that it is working for me!

I am from Brazil and moved to America 11 years ago to study at BYU Provo.

I am a nurse but I love being a stay-at-home mother/wife.

I married a really nice guy called David and together we have a wonderful family with our 4 children. Yochabelle is 9 years old, Hannah is 7 years old, Isaac is 3 years old and Samuel is 1 year old.

We moved from Utah to Hawaii 5 years ago so David could be a Personal Injury Attorney here in the island. I have loved Hawaii since I got here and hopefully we won't need to move anytime soon...maybe I'll be lucky and stay forever :)

I love to travel and get to know different cultures and people. My husband and I leave our kids every year since we got married with my mother in law for 2 weeks and we travel around of the world, it is for sure my favorite two weeks of the year! :) I also love doing things in the ocean and spending time with my family.

May MNO

What a fun outing to Koko Head!

Despite heavy traffic and miscellaneous crises that had us arriving in Hawaii Kai at different times, we managed to meet up with one another in small groups and overlap in some measure at the top of the mountain.

Thanks to all the ladies who came out in force!

Hi! I'm Heather and attend the Kapolei Stroller Strides with the love of my life, Madeline (6 mos). I lost 8 lbs my first month at Stroller Strides thanks to a combination of the workouts and a healthier diet. Woo hoo! My goal is 30 lbs.

I'm from California and have spent most of my adult life being very active for work and play. I studied exercise science, was a director of group fitness, taught classes and personal training, then moved on to working in rehabilitation in a span of 12 years.

I decided I wanted to try corporate life, which I did... got a big office with a great view and a big black leather chair to cater to my big 'ol butt. haha. I gained 30 lbs in 2 years sitting behind that desk! Although fun, corporate life was not for me. I came out to Hawaii and attended Hawaii Healing Arts College and am now a massage therapist.

Because of my background I have a tendency to be selective when it comes to fitness programs. I am incredibly happy with Stroller Strides. The workouts are focused and make sense, the instructors are motivating and knowledgeable, and all of the students work hard. Love it! Makes my day every time!

I met Justin, my husband and best friend, out here in Hawaii. We love every moment of being on island. For fun we love to dirt bike, snowboard, skate, wakeboard, just about anything that takes us outdoors.

Teacher Wanted at IPCPS

Iroquois Point Cooperative Preschool is located at the Waterfront at Pu'uloa and a favorite choice for many of us at Stroller Strides.

Classes are offered two days/week for 3 year olds and three days/week for 4 year olds. I drive 30 minutes to take Sara there because I like how it is truly a preschool, with limited hours and small class sizes.

IPCPS is currently looking for someone with a degree in Early Childhood to teach this upcoming school year. You can also have a degree in Elementary Ed if you have experience and a certain number of credits. It can be a 2- or 4-year degree as long as you qualify with the Department of Human Services (PATCH).

Interested applicants can contact the school's director, Sharon Nowicki, for more details. Her email is snowicki{at}hawaii.rr.com.

There are also a few slots available in the afternoon 4-year-old class on MWF from 12-3. Tuition is $165/month.

Final Farewell

It was a final farewell in two ways -- the third and final instructor leaving us this month (boooo!!) and Stephanie's totally final class.

For those of you who weren't here last year, we said goodbye to Steph in November and then were luckily able to get her back in February for a few more months of classes. She is now en route to the mainland for the beginning of her new life. While we're all going to miss her, we know she is going to thrive in Ohio and that the time had come for her to make that new beginning.

Good luck Stephanie! We will all miss your enthusiasm and dedication! Rock it for you and Logan!

CORP moms in the (very) bright sun!

Logan and Jackson -- loved the hugs!

Koko Head MNO

Put all those squats and lunges to the test! Koko Head is 1,048 steps of butt-kicking bliss.

Thursday, May 26
5:30 PM

If you haven't hiked Koko Head before, get ready! This is a hike that would challenge anyone. All that work is rewarded by a fantastic view of Hawaii Kai, Sandy's Beach Park, and Hanauma Bay.

We'll arrange carpools for those who want to drive over together. From Kapolei, we'll be leaving at 4:30.

UPDATE: Of any MNO, this is one where we can help each other out with childcare! Only so many can hike the mountain at once, so please update your RSVP on evite if you would like to attend and bring your child.

We'll work it out so that the moms with children can take turns watching one another's kids at the base of the mountain. There is a large field and the kids can play together. This definitely requires some coordination, so please RSVP and we'll work it out.

Hi, my name is Kathy and my son is Alexander (3 months old).

We live in Mililani and attend Schofield classes and may sometimes pop in at CORP one day a week.

I'm born and raised in Hawaii and met my husband Bryan 8 years ago when he was in the Navy. He's currently a federal contractor and works out of Wahiawa and is in the Navy Reserves.

I work part time at LCC adult education dept as a curriculum developer/instructor. I love my "NEW" job which allows me to work from home and teach classes a few times a week. I enjoy planning events with our friends on the weekends, I call them family fun days. We try to do different things such as hiking, beach, bbq, game nights, etc.

I gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy and realized I needed help losing weight. One night I read about Stroller Strides on a discussion forum for moms in Hawaii. I attended my first class 3-4 weeks ago and knew that this would be a challenge for me since I'm not a very active person.

The support that I got from the other moms were amazing and they always remind me how hard it was but it got easier. My goal is to lose 15 pounds and to be healthy and feel great about myself. I love Stroller Strides because it allows me to work out, meet new people and to be with my son all at the same time.

Fare Well

This is a sad week at Leeward. Michaela and Alexa are moving on and headed back to the mainland -- Texas for Michaela, and Georgia for Alexa. Their final classes were both this week.

Michaela has been a part of Stroller Strides for longer than any other instructor (save Jill). When I joined as a member, she was also here as a member, running fast and training hard with Saskia who was just a toddler. We became instructors at roughly the same time and Michaela has been a huge part of our classes at Schofield and CORP. She taught class just two weeks before giving birth to Hayden (not ideal! but very necessary to help keep classes running) and she has been a steady, guiding hand all this time.

Michaela and some of the Schofield moms after her final class.

Maria, Michaela, and Stephanie

We're going to miss you Michaela!

Meanwhile, two days later at Kapolei...

Alexa has been a part of Leeward for just a short time, but I know she absolutely made her mark at OP and Kapolei during that time! Alexa returned to the island earlier this year to welcome her husband, Tony, back from deployment. Their family then had a few months here on Oahu before PSCing to their next duty station. Alexa has been an integral part of helping staff Ocean Pointe during Jill's maternity leave, and I'm so grateful that she was willing to make the early drive into Ewa with two young children in tow.

Good luck Alexa, and please let us know if your time at Leeward helps you make that next step in your fitness career!

My name is Jen. My son is Johnny and he is 9 months old.

We live in Ewa Beach and go to the Waterfront as well as Kapolei.

We moved to Hawaii in March because my husband got last-minute orders to a ship that just left for deployment.

I joined Stroller Strides initially so that I could meet people because I knew my husband would be leaving right after we got to Hawaii.

My goals while attending Stroller Strides are to get in shape and feel comfortable in a bikini on the beach.

I also want to set a good example for my son. Plus, I want my husband to come home to a sexy wife:)

I LOVE going to the classes in the mornings. I have already met some great people and I can't wait to meet my goals and see other women meet theirs too!

Hi everyone!! My name is Melissa and I have three crazy kiddos, Caleb (5 years old), Abby (2.5 years old), and Corabelle (8 months). We live in Honolulu, but I attend classes in Kapolei since I am in the area 3 days a week dropping Caleb off at preschool.

We have lived in Hawaii for almost 3 years and we are definitely enjoying it! My husband is in the Coast Guard so we will be moving next year when he is due to rotate. I'm not sure I will be ready to leave then. I love everything that Hawaii has to offer: beautiful scenery, beaches, gorgeous weather, outdoor activities.

I love to take pictures and decided (after looking through our wedding pictures that were horrible) that I was going to get out and learn everything I could about photography. Since then, I have opened my own photography business and am very excited to see it grow.

Growing up I was very active in soccer, basketball, and softball. Sports were my life and then I had children. Even though I had lost all my baby weight and then some after my daughter, Abby, I didn't feel healthy because I wasn't exercising. The same thing happened after I had Cora.

My New Year's resolution was to focus more on me and take time for myself. So, I started to run. The only time I ever ran before was chasing a ball in sports, not just for fun, so this was new to me. I trained for almost 2 months for the Great Aloha run and I recently ran the Diva Half Marathon. I am also thinking about signing up for the Honolulu Marathon (it gets addicting)!

I joined Stroller Strides so I can incorporate more cross training into my routine. I am really looking to build muscle and tone up. Between running and Stroller Strides, I have already seen a difference physically and mentally. I feel like I am getting my athletic, pre-baby body back:)
