Hi, I'm Michaela and I'm a Georgia girl. My husband Mike and I call Charleston, South Carolina home, though. We moved to Hawaii from Ft. Benning in August of 2009 while I was pregnant with our son Grayson. Mike is in the Army and came to Hawaii to be the dentist for Third Brigade, and when Grayson was fifteen-months-old, he deployed with them. My son and I moved back East for the year, and have just returned; Mike should be returning soon, too! We are living on the North Shore now, and working out at Schofield (with some who are also expecting a homecoming any day now!).

While I was away, I really had a Stroller-Strides-shaped hole in my life! I had been coming to SS for about nine months before we left, and I honestly found nothing like it anywhere else. I am a bookish type, and love to read (I have degrees in English, journalism, and linguistics), so I never was a particularly active person. My hobbies are cooking, and crocheting, so even there I'm kept in-doors. After Grayson was born, though, I was amazed at what my "weak" body could do. It was truly a turning point for me, and I have rewarded my body with exercise ever since. This body does so much for me, that it deserves for me to keep it strong!

Stroller Strides is so much more than a workout, though. Maybe it's just this group; I don't know.
This is a group of peers, women, mothers, wives who share their daily experiences then listen, encourage, support, and advise one another. We push each other in our workouts, too. The military ensures that the faces change -- and they have in the year I've been away -- but the culture of this group remains the same, and it felt like coming home!

MNO at Lululemon

Laura, Maria, Margene, Kathy, Sharon, Stacey, Carla, Trish, Jen, Katie,
Norma, Tarah, Lauren, Amber, Melissa, Merry

Last Sunday night we had a fabulous time at our Lululemon MNO. We started of with a little yoga to get our chakras in line for a little bit of shopping...

No evening with the Stroller Strides ladies would be complete if there wasn't some sort of competition, right? All 16 of us were challenged to hold ourselves in chaturanga for as long as possible. There was some stiff competition for sure! Amber, Tarah, Lauren and Stacey were our last four who were holding out for the prize... eventually it came down to Amber and Lauren for the win... Amber was able to chaturanga her way to a new outfit provided by Lululemon (which I might add, she got THE cutest pink shorts and black racer back tank!)... Lauren scored herself a nice Lulu water bottle.

We wrapped up our nice evening with some shopping, pupus and dessert. I think everyone went home with a little something new to work out in, and some of us just fueled our Luluelmon addiction.

Always such a lovely time with the ladies of Stroller Strides...

Hello Stroller Strides ladies! I'm excited to introduce myself to you all as a (semi) new member. My name is Hayley and I have been attending CORP SS for a little over a month now. I currently live in Waikele with my Husband and 1 year old twins, Rylan & Ellie. 8 years ago my husband and I packed our bags and moved to HI for a job opportunity. We planned on it being a short year or two adventure, however we ended up loving Island life and all that it has to offer and decided to root our family here. As the kiddos have reached the year mark and are becoming more mobile, we are trying new activities with them. At the moment they love to ride in shopping carts (which works out great because I love to shop), go to the beach, picnics at the park and just about anything outdoors or near animals.

My life before babies included watching and attending many sporting events, scrapbooking and loving my career as an elementary school counselor. I'm now lucky if I get to watch a whole game, scrapbooking is on the back burner and my job it on hold as I focus on the most important role of being a good mommy to my babes! Life with twins has had its challenges, but things are getting easier and I wouldn't change a thing.

I'm so happy to have found stroller strides because I have been looking for activities I can do with the kids to stay in shape. Walking/jogging around my neighborhood is nice, but it gets boring after a while. I love the challenging workouts Stroller Strides has provided me thus far and I look forward to continuing to improve my endurance so that I can get back to my pre-twin body I so greatly miss! I plan to start attending Kapolei SS this week!

Introducing Dane...

Aloha SS Mamas!

Dane Daniel Derner was born December 28, 2011. He was 6 lbs 6.5 oz and 18 inches long with lots of blonde hair already! It was wonderful to enjoy our family of five as Daddy was home for Dane's birth! His R&R leave was perfect timing! Everything went smoothly for Dane's birth, I actually ended up getting induced which eased my concern of not getting to the hospital in time. We didn't want another car birth! I couldn't believe when they called and told me to come on in, so we finished purchasing our minivan (which I said I would never drive or own) and headed to Tripler! The induction went quick from an induction standard, but was my longest labor. The girls' labors had gone very quickly, so thank you Stroller Strides for keeping me in shape! I did a lot of walking and a lot of squats!!

Dane is getting a lot of love from his sisters, Leah and Livia! They are both little mommies, it is so cute! I am looking forward to getting back to Stroller Strides, I miss the mommies at Schofield and the workout!

Hawaii Pacific Health Women's 10K

This past weekend, several of our instructors ran the Women's 10k at Kapiolani Park... A true testament to what you can accomplish in motherhood with healthy habits, support, and dedication. Here is a little bit about what each instructor had to say about this race in particular, and about running in general.
I am so proud of all the women in our Stroller Strides family, and I am so honored to have the opportunity to have such positive, inspiring role models instructing for Stroller Strides Leeward Oahu.
Enjoy...

RAYNA

My time was 52:20 and I took 3rd place in the Stroller Division. I have never ran this particular race before but have done a few 10k's in the past.
I first started competing in jr. high with 400's and 800's but we had a very small team so I would sometimes have to run every other race and I was burned out very quickly. I did not sign up for track all through high school but ran on the country roads for fun and to stay in shape. It wasn't until I was about 24 that I decided to run in a road race. It became addicting ever since. I have done road races now for 11 years and did mostly 5k's and 10k's. The Honolulu half marathon will be my first black top half-marathon race ever. I have previously done 2 trail half-marathons last year ( I love trail running too). Hawaii has made running competitively very fun and easy because the weather is pretty perfect for me. My first marathon was ran here in 2004 and I have done 2 since then and I am planning on doing the North Shore marathon April 15 of this year. I am also planning on running the Munich marathon in October in Germany.
What I like about road races is that you are only racing essentially against yourself. It is done at your pace and your level. No one dictates how fast you go but you. I love seeing all levels and people from all walks of life at these events.

DEBBIE

This weekend Lyla and I finished second in the Stroller Division, for the Hawai'i Pacific Health Women's 10k, with a time of 52.11. I have been doing road races on and off since college but this was my second time racing with a stroller and my sixth road race since becoming a mom. The Women's 10k is one of my favorite races because of the course and the incredible women that surround you as you run. I hope one day to run this race with my girls.

MARIA

This was my second year running this race. I was able to shave 6 minutes off my time from last year and finished with a time of 1:02:32 this year. Running is hard. I think their is a misconception that only 'runners' can run but the truth is anyone can run. It just takes time, patience and dedication to reach your goals. It was great to see so many familiar faces out there this year!

TRISH

This was my FIRST 10K, and only my second race ever. I crossed the finish line with a time of 1:09:21. There was a time, only a short time ago (less than a year and a half ago, to be exact) that I couldn't even run for more than a few minutes at a time. Through the love and support of my Stroller Strides family, and a little determination, I am becoming a runner. It's something I never thought I would be able to do. There are so may inspiring women that I look up to... the ladies above, for example. I am completely addicted now, and am looking forward to many more races.
I want everyone to know, running IS hard. But if you want to run, YOU CAN! If I can, YOU can. Don't let anyone, including yourself, tell you that you can't. You just have to put one foot in front of the other... and then don't stop until you cross that finish line.

Hi, I am Shin.

I live in Waikele and plan on attending classes mainly at the CORP. My husband found an ideal job opportunity here on the island and so we moved here from Washington state 8 months ago. We have two children. Andrew is 3 years old and Ailene is 10 months old. Lately, my interests have been about exploring the island, especially the food here. We've been having fun trying a new eatery every weekend. I am enjoy hanging out at the beach and being a tourist. When I have time, I also enjoy watching reality tv shows.

I have not regularly exercised since being pregnant with our second child. Now my goal is to be consistent with an exercise schedule of three times a week so that I build up more strength and stamina, have a better overall tone, and flatter abs.
