What: The Baby Hui SWAP-A-THON
Where: New Hope Diamond Head Resource Center in Kahala Mall (above CPK)
When: January 30th from 8 - 11 am (Drop off at 8am, Swap starts at 9am - 11am)
Why: To get the deal of your life, reduce waste by recycling gently used keiki stuff, and to support The Baby Hui programs.

Find fabulous deals as you treasure hunt through new or gently used keiki clothes, toys, infant gear, accessories, shoes, maternity clothes, and tons of kid's stuff all for only $20! Come early to visit our "Re-Gifting" table for the best steals and enjoy some pastries while you meet fellow bargain hunters.

How Does it Work?
For each item you bring, you will get you a coupon to swap for something else. Bring as much as you want! $4 per item if you find more items to take, than the number you bring.

We will accept items at 8 am...you can go for coffee &
the return at 9 am to join in the fun!

Donation: $20* donation at the door - $15* if you order before January 22, 2010
($40 for entry with no swappable items, in exchange for 10 coupons.)
* Includes the Swap-a-thon, Pastries, and Prize Drawing.

Items accepted for keiki ages 0 months -18 years old
Re-gift items should be new in box or VERY gently used & packaged
Early drop off locations in Kahala (255-6121) and Kapolei (554-0457) are available.
We will gratefully accept any donations of items and hangers even if you are unable to attend the SWAP-a-THON - call or email for pickup.
All "unswapped" items will be donated to local families in need.

50,000 Books for Hawaii's kids!

Kahala shared this info with us, and we think it's a great thing for Hawaii's schools!  First Book is a sponsoring a book contest that will award 50,000 books to the State with the most votes.  As of today, Hawaii is in 1st place.  It is really east to vote.  All you have to do is visit the website ONCE a day, choose Hawaii, and click to vote. You don't have to fill in the other spots.  Just go to the box that asks where you want 50,000 books to be sent, find Hawaii and click.

From their website:

"What Book Got You Hooked?" invites readers everywhere to celebrate unforgettable books from childhood and help provide new books to the children who need them most. First Book asks visitors to share the memory of the books that made them readers and then vote for the state to receive 50,000 new books from First Book, helping to get more kids hooked on reading.

Past winners include Oklahoma in 2007 and Kentucky in 2008, with each state receiving 50,000 new books for children in need.

Jessica S. emailed about a cool website she discovered, run.com.  Here is what she says about it:

"So I checked it out and it's neat because it will tell you how many miles from here to there.  It's a very easy site to navigate and figure out.  If you want to know how many miles you are running and or walking, just type in the city and state, a map will pop up and then you find the streets you want to run.  Next you click where you want to start and finish, and it will give you the details."

Swim Lessons anyone?

Carolyn emailed about a swim school that she has Tarek and Carter enrolled in.  I have never heard of this school, but the concept, and results are truly amazing.  It basically teaches your child "survival" skills should they fall into the water.

Carolyn writes that she has had the boys enrolled in the ISR swim program for 5 weeks, and they are almost finished with their lessons.  The video that she has shared shows Tarek at week 4 of the program.  He is 2 1/2, and Carter is 15 months.  

Lessons are Monday through Friday, and each lesson is 10 minutes long with only your child and an instructor. 

Carolyn writes: "It's been a great experience, the instructors are awesome and I feel better knowing they have the basics if something were to ever happen. Especially since we frequent the pools and beaches on a regular basis and it's only me for the time being!"

For those of you who haven't been to the Adidas store, they have a good selection of shoes, workout clothes, hats, and clothes for men, and kids too. They're across the way from Banana Republic Outlet Store and next door to Gymboree. A very nice shopping combination!

gDiapers!

If you haven't heard of gDiapers, it is something you should definitely check out!  It's a flush-able diaper.  Flush-able you ask?  YES!  This unique system has a flush-able insert that goes into a cloth "pant" (see picture).  When it's time for a change, simply pull out the insert, put in the toilet, swish around with your "swish" stick (included in the starter pack) and flush.  Amazing!  If you are in a place where you are unable to flush, simply throw away.  Unlike disposable diapers, which take 500+ years to decompose in our landfills, gDiapers take merely 50-150 days!

Baby Loves Disco!

This is a really fun event for parents and kids! Kid-friendly music, activities in a "club" atmosphere. It's an opportunity to meet other parents, see different vendors and activities available throughout the community, and feel like you are getting a night out on the town (during the day!). I attended the inaugural event last year, and it was really fun. There is even a "quiet" area for parents with small children, or for when you need a break from all of the activity.

I recommend buying tickets ahead of time since the one I went to sold out completely in advance and they had to turn away many people at the door. If you think you may attend, post in the comment section below and that may encourage a group to go.

Punahou Carnival

Rae recently emailed to let us know about the upcoming Punahou Carnival.  She writes,

"For those who are new to the island, the Punahou Carnival is a FUN fmaily outing - food, rides, games, white elephant sale, farmer's market, etc. (the food itself is a major draw!).  The Junior Class puts it on, and this year the theme is "Keeping it Reel" - so expect an abundance of film/movie allusions."

The Punahou Carnival has gained the status of the most profitable fundraiser in the nation.  Be sure to visit Malia who will be working at the Malasada booth with her fellow Punahou classmates.

Date: February 6th and 7th

Time: 11am - 11pm

Disney and Anheuser Busch Deals

I love Disney.  Everything about it.  So, when I saw these special deals, I was very excited.  Disney rarely offers any kind of special deals, so these are really, well, special!

For you military families, both Disneyland/World and Anheuser Busch (aka Sea World) are offering special deals for military this year.

For Disney, there are special military rates available (Armed Forces Salute ticket).  FREE for service member, and BIG discounts for family and friends (up to 5 additional tickets per service member).  Go to mouse misers for more info.  Discounts are available for both Disneyland and Disney World.

ALSO, Disney is offering a free ticket on your birthday for everyone, not just military, so see their website for more details.  Go to home.disney.go/parks to register for your free ticket.

Anheuser Busch is continuing their Free Admission program for Active Duty Military and up to 3 dependents.  See their website for a list of locations.  My family and I have taken advantage of this deal at Sea World, San Diego, and really, what can be better than free!  To register for free admission, go to Hero Salute.
