Stroller Strides at the Swamp Romp

Words cannot describe the muddiness that was Swamp Romp 2010! It was truly a one-of-a-kind race, one that had several of us yelling "What did I get myself into?!" as our teammates had to pull us out of the hip-deep mud.

I'll post more photos as they come in. For now, congratulations to the "Muddie Mommies," Kim M., Teresa, Heather, Susan, Stephanie (CORP), and Liz W., and the "Swampie Striders," Joni, Rayna, Laura O., Jen P., and honorary Striders Carla and Rick. (Rick saved my bacon and pulled me out of the mud in Mile 1. Very glad to have him on the team!)

And congrats go out to Michele and Bridget who also ran the Swamp Romp in separate teams.

Second Tuesdays Restaurant Club

**please scroll down for sandwich sign-up post**

from l to r: Joni, Michaela, Jessica S., Lisa, Gwen, Patti, Rainey, Margene, Jerah, Teresa, Danielle

delicious dessert!

from Margene:
"The inaugural meeting of the restaurant club was a great success. Stroller Strides moms arrived in their stylish attire and took part in a carefree evening. Cocktails and conversation could not be beat. Twelve ladies passed the night away catching up and unwinding over macadamia nut encrusted fish and other fine Roy’s creations. Dessert was enjoyed by all with chocolate soufflé being a very popular choice!

We are looking forward to the next meeting of this new Stroller Strides adventure. Join us for Second Tuesdays Restaurant Club as we enjoy the culinary offerings of the highly rated Zagat reviewed Orchids at the Halekulani on December 8th."

If you have not been to the Halekulani, you are in for a treat as their service and food is unprecedented.

If you would like to attend, please reply to the evite you should have received via email. Please also vote on a menu when you reply to the evite. Options are below (click to enlarge, or click on link)

Halloween Playgroup this FRIDAY!

There will be a Halloween Playgroup and Festival this Friday at
Kapolei after class.

It's nearly Halloween! Beth and her team of helpers have organized lots of fun activities and games for the kids on Friday. Everyone is invited to the event (you do not need to be a Stroller Strides member to participate), so bring along a friend!

Please bring a bag for your child to collect their prizes and other assorted loot :). Our goodies for the kids will all be non-food related, for those of you who are concerned about sugar overload.

Please DO NOT bring any candy to hand out. There will be snacks as usual for the kids.

There will be prizes for costumes as determined by the Instructor Panel -- so
kids and moms, join the fun and wear those fun outfits!!

Treasure Hunt Play Group!

Beth hosted a FANTASTIC pirate playgroup for the kids. They made pirate hats, pirate telescopes, ate Cap'n Crunch, and went on a treasure hunt around Kapolei Park that ended with a chest full of buried treasure. Thanks to Teresa for taking the pictures and sending them along. The kids were so dang cute on their treasure hunt!

It looks like a Pirate Day!

Kyle's on the lookout!

thanks to Joni for sending the photos from Teresa and composing the text for this post!

Wanna Hula? *UPDATE*

*Hula night has been scheduled for Friday, September 25th at 8pm.

The address is 2851 E. Manoa Rd., Ste. 1-207, which is located in Manoa Marketplace.

If you are interested in attending, please notify Joni by TOMORROW, Friday Sept. 18th.  Fees for the class will by due by next Monday.

So far, 10 moms have signed up, so you can expect the cost to be anywhere from $15-22.  Most likely everyone will meet up for a light dinner before the class.
------------

Come learn Hula for October's Mom's Night Out!

Joni has been in touch with Wanna Hula to organize a group lesson for us.  She told Sarah from Wanna Hula that all of you like to work out and sweat, so she promises a good workout with perhaps some Tahitian dancing thrown in!

The more people that participate reduces the cost of an hour-long session, so a group of 10-15 would be ideal and would run from $10 to $15 per person.  She would like to pick a time and day that works best for those who are interested, so let her know if you want to Hula!  email her at: joni@strollerstrides.net.

Book Club!

An email was sent out to all members, announcing the launch of a book club.  Please email Rosy if interested!

(If you deleted the email, or never got it, please email Joni at joni@strollerstrides.net to get Rosy's email address).

Once a group has been established, they will decide on meeting days/times as well as reading material.

Happy Reading!

Instructor Extravaganza!

With 20 moms
at class last Friday, the instructor extravaganza at Kapolei was a rousing success!

It was a definitely a challenging workout!  Class was designed as a circuit training event so that your heart rate remained elevated for the entire hour, while different muscle groups took turns working to failure.

The Extravaganza may become a quarterly event, so look out for it in the future!

Art Playgroup in the Park!

Beth organized a fun "Art in the Park" playgroup at Kapolei last Friday, and the kids drew on the sidewalk with chalk and paint.  The art supplies were a BIG (messy!) hit and everyone had a great time!
