Meet Our Newest Instructor

Rachel
Hickam

Hi! My name is Rachel McHale and I teach Stroller Strides at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. You will see me there with my youngest child, Sam, who will be 2 this spring. Sam and I love going to Stroller Strides together!
My Stroller Strides journey, however, began a long time before Sam joined our family. My oldest son, Patrick, and I began attending classes in Monterey, CA over 9 years ago. I was already a certified fitness instructor and was soon teaching classes. In 2003 my family moved to Virginia Beach and I couldn't imagine my life as a mom without Stroller Strides. The amazing friendships my son and I had made with Stroller Striders had made such an impact on our lives. The only problem was, Stroller Strides was still located only in California. If I wanted to have Stroller Strides in Virginia, I would have to start it myself. I owned the Virginia Beach franchise for 6 years before moving to Hawaii in 2009.
When we arrived in Hawaii, my husband and I made the decision to homeschool our older children, Patrick, 10, and Megan, 7, and so fitting in Stroller Strides has been difficult.
Now that they attend a science class on Thursday mornings, I have been able to introduce fitness and fun, the Stroller Strides way, to my youngest child and I LOVE it!! Sam and I go to The Thursday class at CORP each week and it is such an important part of our routine. But classes have still not been close enough to home for me to try teaching on a regular basis. I just felt I would give up too much school time with my older children.
When I found out that Stroller Strides was finally going to be offered on Hickam, I was beyond excited! The only thing I love more than participating in Stroller Strides classes is actually teaching them. I love to share my passion for health and fitness with other moms. And I am so thankful for the chance to do just that.

Hi! I'm Sarah and I am new to Stroller Strides. I plan to attend the Kapolei classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday but like the option of the other locations. My husband and I moved to Hawaii three and a half years ago and we've loved every minute of it. My husband is in the Coast Guard and we are unfortunately due to move this summer. We will really miss Hawaii but are looking forward to our next adventure.

When we moved to Hawaii, my husband and I both became a lot more active. I was always a jogger but since moving here I've done a triathlon, a half marathon and worked with a trainer. I guess being in a swimsuit year-round will get you motivated! Then I got pregnant with my son, William, I ran until about 20 weeks and then gradually gave up working out almost completely. Now, I am determined to get back in shape.
When I had my son three months ago, I also became a stay-at-home-mom. I love that Stroller Strides gives me a place to be at least a few days a week. Being able to stay home is wonderful but having a schedule with Stroller Strides is nice. I also really enjoy all of the friendly ladies, adorable kids and awesome workouts!

Hi there! My name is Susan. I'm an Army wife and a mom to five active boys ages 3-15. We were stationed at Schofield Barracks back in the summer of 2008 and so therefore I attend class on post here. We lived in Makakilo for two years and have since moved on post at Schofield and love it. I was a former SS member over a year ago, and then took some time off to heal from an injury. I am healthy now and am looking forward to regaining physical endurance through SS. I ran my first half marathon last year and would like to someday maybe try a full marathon.

Cyndi attends class primarily at CORP.

Living out of a hotel on Tripler for the next month! My husband is in med school at USUHS (in Bethesda, MD) and is here for a 6 week rotation at the hospital.

I love spending time with my family, running, and doing anything active outside. My drug of choice is exercise! My youngest is 5 months and while I've reached my goal weight, I'm focused on getting my shape and strength back. I've been a Les Mills Cycle and Body Pump instructor for 4 years and I'm looking forward to teaching again when we get home in March. Stroller Strides has been and continues to be a huge help in getting me back into teaching shape!!

Indigo Moms Night Out

Rayna, Veronica, Trish, Sallie, Amy, Joni, Meg, Margene,
Melissa, Marna, Heather, Maria, Sheryl and Tarah

We had a fantastic night out last night at Indigo. We had the entire lanai to ourselves. We enjoyed great food, wonderful conversation and celebrated Joni's "retirement" as franchisee of Stroller Strides Leeward Oahu. We presented Joni with a $300 gift card to Lululemon, as a thank you for all of her hard work and dedication over the past two-and-a-half years.

Helllooo my name is Salamasina Merry Kawaauhau but my family and people at home (American Samoa) know me by Merry, the only people that call me Sala are people that I met after I left home. Of course since I met everyone at SS through Jen, Merry's what I'm going by there too...it certainly does get confusing at times...lol

Anyways I'll be attending SS in Kapolei on Mon, Wed and Fri since I'm off Mon, Tues and Wed and I work nights on Thurs and Fri.

We live in Makakilo and we moved to Hawaii in 2008 when my husband and I separated from the Air Force. My husband's local and Hawaii puts me closer to my family so Hawaii was a given for us when it came to moving and settling down. My husband is from Waianae and he works at Airgas Gaspro in Campbell.

I have a 5 year old daughter and a 1 year old son. I love to spend time with my family. I love to hang out with my kids, it's really interesting watching their personalities develop. I also love to lay around and do absolutely nothing. I'm an Air Traffic Controller and a mommy to 2 super active kids so I take advantage of any time I have to do absolutely nothing and I love any time I have to not have to think ;) I love lazying around so I go to work, come home, make sure everything's squared away with the kids just so I could sit around and do nothing.

I love SS because class is right down the street and I can go right after I drop off my daughter to school. My son is so not a home body so I know he loves anything that gets him out of the house. I'm hoping to lose as much weight as I can because I would love to have another baby not to mention SS kicks my butt, but I feel so much better throughout the day. I feel so accomplished after a session of a SS. I also love food and beer so that doesn't help my mission :(

Buuut just after less than a month of sessions I'm more and more motivated to keep on keeping on because I can fit in my jeans that I wasn't able to after I gave birth=) I wish I weighed myself before starting SS because I know I lost weight and inches but I just don't know how much:(

Anyways I love SS in Kapolei and I love how there's different instructors and I intend to continue going so long as my laziness doesn't overthrow my motivation to stay active!

Aloha! I'm Sharon and I'm a new member of the Stroller Strides ohana. I primarily attend classes at CORP with Ava, my five month old daughter, as we live in Pearl City but we also enjoy joining everyone in Kapolei.

Hawaii has been home for over six years now. Back in 2003, Aaron, my then boyfriend and now husband, and I came to Oahu for vacation. Hawaii was halfway between Colorado, where I was attending law school, and South Korea, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. During that trip, Aaron asked me if I'd like to live in Hawaii someday and the rest is history.

Aaron is now a captain with the Hawaii Army National Guard and has one of the best views of the island from his office in Diamond Head crater. I am now a full-time mommy to Ava, after spending the past four and a half years as an attorney for the City and County of Honolulu. It was a tough decision not to go back to work because the people I worked with were fabulous, but I'm really happy that I'll be able to experience all of Ava's firsts. Our four-year-old English Mastiff, Gracie, is also really happy that I spend more time at home with her! Plus, it gives me a chance to pursue my passion of making jewelry.

I joined Stroller Strides because I miss my old pants! I'm not in shape by any means (being a desk slug will do that to you!) but everyone has been very supportive and encouraging. I enjoy the variety of workouts at Stroller Strides, chatting with the other moms, and seeing Ava interact with all the other little ones.

Hope to see you at CORP or Kapolei soon!
