Meet Our Newest Instructor!

Aloha!  My name is Ashley Astorga and I am a full time mom and loving wife to my daughter Adalynn (7 months) and husband Arnulfo (friends call him Astro).

Fitness has pretty much been apart of my life since I was a kid, but I didn’t really get to the level I am now until I joined the Army. I was first stationed at Camp Humphrey’s Korea where I met my husband, a Chinook pilot with the Army.  We got married when I came home from Korea and spent the next two and half years stationed two and half hours from each other.  During this time we were both deployed to Afghanistan.  It was while I was there that I really dove head first into working out.  I spent A LOT of time in our gym and I got into the best shape of my life.  I felt amazing and was able to out perform a lot of the guys in my unit, which was an amazing feeling.

I decided to end my time on active duty so that I could focus on our family and June of last year I officially became a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard.  It was around the same time that I started attending Stroller Strides as one of the pregnant mommies.  I was so scared of gaining too much weight!  I know myself and I know how hard it is for me to loose extra pounds that I pack on.  I may have gained more than I wanted to during my pregnancy but because of Stroller Strides my fitness level was not at level zero when I started working out again post pregnancy.  I was able to complete my 3rd half marathon only three and half months after having Addie and I contribute a lot of that to Stroller Strides!! SS has been such an amazing blessing in my life.  Not only did I get some really good work outs, but I was able to connect with moms that could help me out when I had questions.  I was going through such a HUGE change in my life from being an active duty Army Officer to becoming an at home mom, going from being in the best shape of my life to becoming pregnant and having to recognize my physical limits.  It seemed overwhelming at times but through the amazing support that I got from my Stroller Strides family, I was able to handle what ever it was I was dealing with.

Can’t wait to work out with some amazing Mommies!!!

My name is Devin.  My primary location for attendance is Schofield Barracks where we also live in military housing.  My husband Mike, and two kids Dylan (5) and Ella (2), and I have been living on island for almost a year now and love it here!  We did a PCS from Germany and adjusting to the nice warm climate has been pretty easy ;) I enjoy yoga, pilates, reading, and lately stand up paddle boarding. I joined Stroller strides in the hopes of getting in shape while also establishing connections with other moms like me!   Looking forward to getting to know everyone and of course working out :)

Introducing Onnie....

Hello Everyone! My name is Andrea and I have been attending Stroller Strides since last January. As some of you may know I just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy! His name is Onnie Blake Floyd and he was born June 3rd and was 7lbs 8oz and 20 inches long! I have to say that this pregnancy was so much easier than with my daughter Joleigh and I believe it is because of my involvement in Stroller Strides. While pregnant I participated in four 5ks and managed to attend classes all the way up to my 37th week of pregnancy! We are so excited that Onnie is finally here and everything has been going great! Joleigh is proving to be a great big sister and says that "we can keep him forever!" I am looking forward to attending classes once I get the all clear from my doctor and Joleigh is looking forward to seeing all of her buddies again and showing off her brand new baby brother.

Aloha All! My name is Crystal and I have lived in Hawaii for 4 years. I moved out here to be with love of my life. My husband Sean is in the Navy.We are both from Florida and met in high school. Shortly after moving here I became pregnant with our son Liam ( now 2 and half ). When Liam was 3 months old I joined stroller strides and loved it. Due to the battle I was having with postpartum depression and not being able to wake up early enough to share the car I had to leave stroller strides. I kept telling Joni I would come back and I am! Sad to see her leave but she seems to have a good team that has taken over!
I am a stay at home mom to Liam. I work during the holiday season. I worked at Pier One a few years ago and this past year I was at the OshGosh outlet. I will admit I'm not much of an athletic person but I love the work outs and friendships stroller strides provides. Besides stroller strides I love watching HGTV or a good chick flick at night and I love shopping and I'm slightly addicted to Facebook. I also love spending time with my little family at the dog park. We have two crazy dogs named Kiper and Tiki who provide us with as much entertainment as Liam does. They keep me on my toes.

It feels good to be back ladies! Unfortunately its only for a few months since we will be moving in September. I have been attending Corp on Tuesdays and Thursdays and i do plan to make it to some classes at Schofield. Feel free to say hi to me if you see me. I'm friendly and outgoing, I don't bite! Liam is not shy either you'll normally here him repeating and counting with the instructors at class! LOL! I'm looking forward to getting know all of you this summer!

Meet Our Newest Instructor...

Hello, my name is Jessica and I attend Stroller Strides with my daughter Peyton, who will be one in July.
My husband Jesse and I arrived on the island about two years ago, for our first and last duty station with the Army. We live near Schofield and have throughly enjoyed our time here in paradise.
We are high school sweethearts, both born and raised in a small town in Northern California, Sonoma.
Growing up my family was never a real "healthy" family, we never had a gym membership, I wasn't big in youth sports and we ate whatever we wanted. It was when I met my husband who played sports in high school and college, that I was introduced to a healthy and active lifestyle.
In Sonoma, I taught spin class for 6 years, getting certified right after high school and continuing to teach through college.
I was introduced to Stroller Strides through a friend of mine, who suggested it when I told her I was desperate for a good workout and some adult interaction, after having my daughter and my husband heading back to Afghanistan 10 days later. I will admit I was skeptical, and nervous. I was so used to spin classes I was worried about making such a big departure. I am so happy I tried it, not only was it a great workout, I enjoyed that same group feel I got from spin. It has made such an improvement in my day to day life, I have met some amazing moms, and Peyton has made some great friends. I am so excited to start instructing, and looking forward to sharing my passion for fitness and Stroller Strides with all you inspiring moms.

I'm Valerie.  I have been in Hawaii for  almost a year now.  I moved here with my wonderful husband Mark and my beautiful daughter Kathryn, who will be 4 in August.  Mark is a Major in the 45th SSB, currently deployed in Afghanistan.  Mark and I were married last March, so this is my first Army duty station and my first deployment.  I was THRILLED that we got Hawaii, and I love everything about this island but the centipedes.  We moved here from southern California, where I managed a Ruth's Chris.  My 15+ years in the restaurant biz turned me into a pretty serious foodie, and I also love to cook.  I am a level one sommelier as well, and have a hard time justifying a great meal without a great wine to go with it.  So you can see the calories adding up in my life...  To add to the excitement, we just had a darling baby girl named Madelyn.  Both my girls were born via c-section, and since having them both I am 30 pounds heavier than when I started and my middle has turned to mush.  Milly is almost 3 months old now, so it is time for me to get my mommy buns back in shape!  I heard about Stroller Strides from my friend Melissa F.  Since she is such an awesome, strong little hottie herself, I knew I had to give it a try.  I was a dancer in my youth and had a semi-serious yoga phase, but my relationship to exercise has waned in my old age.  I am ready to rekindle it, especially now that I am a stay at home mom with no excuses to be had.  My goal is not just to lose my baby weight, but to really make exercise a part of my daily life, so that I can teach my girls a healthy, active lifestyle.  And it would be great to knock my husbands socks off when he comes home ;)  So far Stroller Strides has been a blast, and I find myself looking forward to class, and to meeting all the other rockin' fit moms!

Aloha! My name is Kerri and I have 7 month old son Xavier.  We mainly attend the Kapolei location, but will be visiting CORP more often.  My husband and I moved to Ewa Beach in the summer of 2009, because I got an opportunity of a life time to help open and be an assistant manager for the first Victoria's Secret in Hawaii.   About a year ago, I transfered to our sister company, helping open the first Bath and Body Works in Hawaii as assistant manager.  I love my job, and am learning to balance working full-time while being a mom, and my husband going back to school to earn his degree in Civil Engineering.
My husband and I love the great outdoors.  I love Hawaii because there are so many locations for hiking and snorkeling, which are my two favorite hobbies. I especially like to get out and hike with my two German Shepherd dogs.
I joined Stroller Strides because before becoming pregnant I was training for my first marathon.  I would run around the Ocean Pointe area and see all these women and their strollers wearing "Fit Mommies Rock" shirts.  I knew I wanted to join if I had a child.  I ended up putting my marathon training on hold to have Xavier.  So this year is my year, to get back in shape, start training and preparing for my first marathon (the Honolulu Marathon), which also happens to be on my 36 birthday.  AlI though I prefer strength training, it has always been on my bucket list to run in a marathon.  I'm also happy that while preparing for the marathon, I get to spend time meeting other mothers and making new friends. Mahalo Trish and Stroller Strides.

Goodbye from Joni...

I know, it's goodbye again! Didn't I do this 6 months ago? Stroller Strides was my world here in Hawaii, and so it's taken a few months to gradually step back and feel ready to go. And I am. But I still cried all the way home from my last class. It's the end of an era for me.

I joined SS as a member. I ran into Jenna on the beach and started talking to her because I was trying to make friends. She told me about Stroller Strides and I got up the courage to go that same week. Poof! Now I knew people! It took a while to know everyone's names, and a little longer to really feel comfortable, but I knew pretty quick that this was my tribe. I vividly remember running behind Tania at Kapolei, making the first left turn at the keyhole, and having her recommend that I buy a BOB stroller. Funny what sort of stuff you remember!

I wish I could tell you all what you have meant to me. From my side of things, it's easy to see the entire tapestry of Stroller Strides. You may feel like a small thread over there in the corner, but I saw you. I know that I am just one more link in the chain. Stroller Strides is the ultimate mom community -- we created it for ourselves, and we keep it going.

I am incredibly grateful to Buffy and Katey, the women who had the guts to open Stroller Strides in the first place. I think it was hard to do. I'm glad that Buffy has been able to see all that hard work pay off and how many women have passed through SS because of their vision. I am grateful for Sarah, Leeward's second owner, who owned the franchise for a year and then mentored me when I bought the franchise. She spent so much time with me. And I am grateful for Trish. I know exactly how much work it takes to keep SS going, and she is doing all that stuff and more. It's been so satisfying to see my "baby" safe and sound in Trish's care.

Health and fitness can get twisted into all this junk about visible abs and buns of steel. It goes so much deeper than that. It's totally awesome to like how you look, but it feels even better to trust yourself and know that YOU take care of yourself. Our kids don't need martyrs. They need good examples.

Stroller Strides moms are the cream of the crop. Thank you for being my tribe. I will always remember my time with you, all three years' worth of moms at CORP, Kapolei, Schofield, Ocean Pointe, and Waterfront (with a smidgen of Kailua!).
